Qingpu Center for children new year and birthday party acivity

On January 18th, volunteers from the French APM charity traveled to Youdao’s Qingpu Children’s Center for a day of activities. They brought many gifts, food and game props with them. They also came with a lot of interesting and funny games and activities that they planned to play with the migrant children who live nearby. There were around 80 migrant children who participated in the activity day. The atmosphere of the activity day was friendly and exciting.
At 2pm, the activities began. All the children and French student volunteers were divided into five separate groups. Each group of volunteers led a group of children in playing one of the games. After some time passed, the children’s groups switched games and the children got to meet new volunteer game leaders. Each group got to experience all five different games.
The first game was Watch and Tell, which tested the children’s memories. A small group of children were shown some small articles and items. The articles and items were then covered by a cloth and the children had to remember as many items as possible. The team who remembered the highest number of articles won.
The second game was a football kicking game. The volunteers and children played together, one acted as the goalie and the other as the kicker. The teams switched roles throughout the game. This was a fun athletic game that got the kids up and moving.
The third game was Rice Delivery. A group of children were divided into two small teams, and volunteers prepared many cups of rice that were placed on a table. The children had to grab a cup of rice and run across the room and pour their cup of rice into a plastic bottle. All of the children fiercely competed to deliver the most rice. The team that got the most rice in their bottle won the game.
The fourth game was Mask Painting. Each child was given a plate and told to design an animal mask using different paints and colors. Many of the children drew very lovely masks and proudly displayed their animal masks.
The fifth game was Blind Drawing. The children first watched the volunteers draw a picture. The children were then blind folded and asked to draw the same picture. It was quite difficult to draw without being able to see the paper, but the children had a lot of fun and created some really funny drawings.
After the games ended, the volunteers organized a group birthday celebration for the three children and three volunteers whose birthdays are in January. The volunteers distributed beautiful home-made cakes, candies and soft drinks to everyone and then everyone sang Happy Birthday for them. The volunteers also sang a Thanks for Dinner song in French which really made the children happy. The volunteers then gave each child a small gift before ending the event.
Many thanks to APM and all of the volunteers for the wonderful and joyful afternoon they brought to the migrant children
